Cash is still the most popular way to pay for your shopping and entertainment expenses when visiting any part of Mexico. From the small costs of taxi rides, snacks and bottled water to the larger expenses of restaurants and admission fees of museums and site attractions, cash is still required in most locations. While your debit or credit card can be used to fill your wallet with pesos at the widely available cash machines throughout most cities, plan on transaction and service fees also putting a hit to your wallet. So, it's a good idea to have some pesos before arriving in Mexico to save you the worries and hassle when arriving.
